The Palace of Refuge

A prototype on the coast of northern California, The Palace of Refuge is a permanent refuge structure with the main intention of providing shelter and support to those who are experiencing, have experienced, or will experience a natural disaster. We derived the form from a subtle lifting of the landscape. The palace has a prominent presence on the ocean side and a subtle presence when viewed from land, so as not to detract from the beauty of Del Norte State Park, which the palace sits just outside of.
